E-LOOP is our brand name for circular innovations and more sustainable solutions

E-LOOP includes all of our circular economy initiatives in terms of products, design and services.

We want to be a catalyst for more efficient, locally-implemented short loops for ABS recovery.

Our aim is to be a global leader of reference in the market of highly specialised thermoplastics. With this mission, we've been contributing to the transition towards a circular plastics economy for years, as this is one of the pillars of our business strategy.

MISIÓN

  • To offer top-of-the-line sustainable solutions in our markets, promoting the transformation of the value chain towards a circular economy model.

VISIÓN

  • To be a driving force of the new plastics economy, participating in the redefinition of plastic waste as raw material.
  • To support an ecosystem of collaboration with companies who have common goals.

COMPROMISO

  • To establish collaborations for developing new business models, including opportunities stemming from our membership of Styrenics Circular Solutions
  • To offer innovative up-cycling solutions which preserve functionality in final customer applications in our ABS markets.

Circular plastics and responsible innovation are the strategic programmes of ELIX's sustainable solutions portfolio. Let's close the loop!

CIRCULAR PLASTICS

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

  • Offer innovative up-cycling solutions that preserve the functionality of end customer applications in our ABS markets.
  • Establish collaborations with key stakeholders throughout the value chain to create new circular business models.

ACTION PLANS:

  • Recuperate and reuse or recycle ABS products and components and ABSderived materials.
  • Use raw materials from recycled or renewable sources.
  • Reinforce collaborations throughout the value chain to create new circular business models.
  • Improve the participation of customers and the logistics chain to close material cycles.
  • Increase flow transparency and traceability.

RESPONSIBLE INNOVATION

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

  • Reinforce responsible innovation towards a more sustainable and circular portfolio, including research on the use of renewable and/or recycled raw materials for our products.

ACTION PLANS:

  • Improve the sustainability of ELIX's ABS materials.
  • Promote the design of reusable and recyclable products.

CIRCULAR ECONOMY COLLABORATIONS

At ELIX we participate in international studies and projects related to circular economy, which often involve collaborations with other companies or organizations within our value chain.

ELIX Polymers has ISCC+ certified product portfolio using mass balance model to assure traceability and transparency in the supply chain.Renewable and biobased feedstocks are used and the material properties are 100%equal to prime materials.

Cartera de Soluciones

We are developing solutions using mechanical recycling, a process in which segregated plastic with homogeneous properties is shred for later reuse in manufacturing grades that maintain all the properties and characteristics of virgin materials intact. These are uprecycling strategies. Specifically, we are developing the following products: modified ABS with recycled PC and recycled ABS (standard grade).

A European H2020 project whose main objective is to develop an economically viable and technically feasible recovery and recycling system for electrical and electronic waste (WEEE). In this initiative we collaborate with different industries and technological centres.
Styrenics Circular Solutions (SCS) is a joint value chain initiative, founded in December 2018 by leading styrenics manufacturerswith membership continuously expanding all along the value chain. Styrenics Circular Solutions brings together leaders from the supply chain, styrenics producers, converters, recyclers, brand owners/retailers and trade associations as well as universities, research institutes and technology providers.

RESPONSIBLE INNOVATION PROJECTS

We design high-quality solutions integrating the evaluation of sustainability principles that take into account environmental, social and economic aspects through the Value Sensitive Design (VSD) method.

The Value Sensitive Design (VSD) method, at the service of responsible innovation, has become a tool for customer service and customer loyalty

The Value Sensitive Design (VSD) method is a tool for continuous improvement based on product ecodesign criteria which makes it possible to evaluate the impact of a product throughout its entire life, from its phases previous to production until its final elimination when its useful life has come to an end. This method rates the compliance of each solution with respect to a list of environmental (26), social (17) and economic (9) factors. In this way, we can objectively compare the impact of different products. Since we introduced this method we have renewed our catalogue with newer, more sustainable thermoplastics solutions offering greater diversity and quality in the market.

In 2020 we used VSD to evaluate two new projects, both with high sustainability performance. R-H801 (modified ABS with recycled PC), used to make roof spoilers for cars, is currently the best performing product in our catalogue in both environmental and social sustainability.

Partnerships for circularity

At the beginning of 2020 we became members of this joint industry initiative to improve the circularity of styrenes. It involves the creation of new business and collaboration models in order to recover styrene-based plastics for recycling.

We collaborate in this European H2020 programme with various industries throughout the plastics value chain, including recycling and engineering companies, chemical and OEM (final product) industries, as well as centres for technology and research.

Our partnership with Repsol was formalised in October 2020 with a view to developing and cooperating in the chemical recycling of ABS.

Due to the pandemic, we had to postpone this event, which is now scheduled for November of 2021. This event is organised following sustainability criteria and an environmental management programme. ELIX plans to participate in the CE Hotspot through the AEQT. We will conduct a tour of our facilities to show how we incorporate circular economy.

ELIX'S PORTFOLIO OF INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS CONTRIBUTES TO THE TRANSITION TOWARDS A CIRCULAR ECONOMY. HAVE A LOOK!
